Surrender a Pet.
Pet owners often make the heartbreaking decision to surrender their pet for many reasons. Unpredictable changes in life situations, allergies in the family, financial difficulties, or developing behavioral issues with the pet are just a few of them, to help in these times we accept pet surrenders on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Information.
If you are looking to surrender your pet, please submit this form for cats or this form for dogs so we can have more information about them.
If you are unable to submit an online form, please email us.
Please bring your animal’s medical records to your appointment, or ensure you have uploaded all the appropriate medical records.
The person surrendering the animal must be the owner and must sign a document transferring ownership of the animal to Paws of Promise.
Paws of Promise does not accept stray animals. If you have found a stray animal, please contact the Animal Control officer or the police department for the town in which the animal was found.
Please note that we do not accept every surrender, and a dog behavior Assessment must be completed for dogs before intake into Paws of Promise.
Once we receive your surrender form, we will reach out to you to provide more information and set up an appointment time.
You can adopt from us even if you’ve surrendered a pet in the past. We know life changes, and sometimes families have to make incredibly hard decisions. When circumstances improve, and you're ready to welcome an animal again, you’re absolutely still eligible to adopt from Paws of Promise as long as our standard adoption requirements are met. Our only goal is to make the best match for each dog.
Before your appointment, please remember:
Be on time, or please be courteous and simply let us know if you no longer need the appointment.
Bring all of your pet's veterinary records and important documents. Having as much information as possible about your pet makes it much easier for us to get to know him or her, to expedite their intake process, and to get started evaluating them and working to find them a new home.
Consider a donation. Paws of Promise relies on donations in order to provide care to the animals in our care. Please give what you can; even a $5 or $10 donation makes a difference.
